I write fiction about children today, but occasionally take trips to the past. I've been known to give advice about changing bodies, stressing less, and getting it together. But my first love? That was picture books for the littlest readers.
Writing stories was as much a part of my childhood as climbing trees and playing with dolls. After earning degrees in creative writing and child psychology, I worked for 15 years as a children's book editor. Now I write from my home in Madison, Wisconsin, where I still occasionally climb trees and (ahem...) play with dolls.
Volunteering in schools, hanging out with my nieces and nephews—those things help me remember what it's like to be a kid, which makes it easier to write books that kids care about. I love to meet readers, too, at book signings and author events. Every child has a unique story to tell!
